It is amazing to watch as the Conservative media machine works on their leader, Stephen Harper.
Aside from some monumental errors on his side, like ending every recent speech with “G-d Bless Canada!”, a panicked mention of the ‘Liberal judges in dark corners who are fouling the water,’ and edging back into the old “Majority win” talk he used to lose the last election, Harper has been re-invented as a nice guy with no scary neo-Con leanings at all. (I'm sure.)
It is truly a stroke of PR genius that they are actually erasing some traits of his old Reform/ Alliance heritage. It is being washed away in a tide of Bill-Davis-Blandness, wrapped in better suits. It is an impressive show, indeed.
Aw, look. Harper is a great guy: Harper has a dog. He likes cats. He wears turtle-necks. He loves Star Trek... He loves Canada, and Canadians, and has no ill will towards us poor sinners.
And he also is a great lover of George W., fought against some significant human rights advancements, and supported the war on Iraq. So, yeah… no. He's not kind or friendly.
A prick that has a dog and likes Star Trek, is still, sadly, a prick.
Nice try, Conservatives. A new suit and a softer voice do not a kind and acceptable leader make. I’m very sorry, but this voter refuses to be finessed. George W. Harper still doesn’t impress me. Not even in a turtle-neck. (They even have him co-ordinating his ties with dear Jack Layton to seem more perky. I guess the black Sith-Lord cape he wears around home was too much, even for them.)
Better luck next time, Count Orlok.
