And STILL No Baby...
Murph's mom called yesterday to make sure we weren't in labour. It's cute that people somehow think we'll just forget to tell them, but I really do think we will be able to take that few minutes to call our moms. It's not like babies just fall out - it's a pretty long process, really.
However, contractions have been hitting nightly, and I am certainly getting close. We expect to have a baby by Friday. We see the doctor again on Thursday, so we'll see what he says... if we make it that long, though Katie wants the baby Wednesday night.
We'll try our best.
(PS> Just realized I totally don't know what day of the week it is right now... Tuesday, right? Am I close? Man, not going to work screws with your time sense.)

No Baby Yet.
Well, it's not like I expected the baby to pop out just because it was his due date, but we are expecting him very soon, given the rate of aches, pains and other signs I am showing. Rest assured, updates will be forth coming as soon as progress is made.

Due Dates and Extensions
We are due today - it is the 40 week mark. That's pretty exciting, though the baby doesn't seem to realize that he's supposed to be done now. However, the doctor did say I am making very good natural progress, and, really, he'd not be surprized if I went this week, without inducing. (First births without being induced is actually kind of a feat these days, as it seems everybody needs help along now.)
Well, the bags are packed, and the taxi money is in hand, so we're just waiting, waiting, waiting now. I will pass time today by doing my taxes. Excitement, no?
Oh, and I guess it's Oscars time this week... I really couldn't care less, so I'm not going to bother with guesses except this one: Most of those who waste their evening watching the ceremony will regret having done so. Ta-da!

The Last Business Day Before D-Day
Today is the last day to get some banking stuff and other chores done before the due date. I know it is not likely we'll deliver this weekend, but I think it is still wise to make sure we are covered. Then I hope to do my taxes this weekend, and finish the RA work I have leftover. After that, I should be pretty much ready for the baby - at least in terms of errands and tasks...

Advice for the Lonely Heart
I am sitting here reading through advice column archives, thinking how desperate someone must be to ask such things for help, and how easy it must be for columnists to advise from outside the situation. And wondering how often their advice is actually taken. When someone is having trouble with their spouse/partner/etc., they don't want to hear "dump him." They really want to hear, "It's actually ok - don't even worry about it." But some of these cases... jeesh.
Well, I do have more important things to do today, but I don't really feel like it. I have turned into a slug. Still, Due Date is only a few days away, so I want to make sure my affairs are in order before then. Blah.

Having a morning of ups and downs, but things have settled somewhere near ok now. Had a bit of student loan blow up this morning, but now some good news and some leftover birthday cake has made up for it.

F*cking Holiday
Can't get groceries - stupid Family Day has all the grocery stores closed. So, let me get this straight - you can buy groceries on Remembrance Day, but this sh*te-eating fake excuse for a holiday shuts everything down? Why? So the box boys can sit at home and eat burbon on cheerios in their tighty whiteys today?
Damn government and their damn fake holidays.
So, now I have to go McGyver on Murph's birthday supper with the two ounces of food I have left in the house. Maybe if I had some loaves and fishes and were the right sort of person... but, as it is, I am screwed.

Family Day 2008
Today is Ontario's first Family Day. Too bad we couldn't manage a birth today, as that would have been kind of neat.

Happy Birthday, Murph!
Today is Murph's birthday, so I hope to make a nice supper of his choosing, and then have some friends over for some food, chat and a movie. It promises to be a good time - and one of the last few get-together chances we'll have before the baby, who is now due in just under a week.
It's early, and I don't know if I should stay up or go back to bed. I have been sleeping in two hour shifts recently, helped out today by a pretty urgent spate of nausea. Could my body be training me for night feedings?
In any case, looking forward to a nice evening, so my tummy better co-operate.

TGIF
Thank heavens - it is finally Friday. AND it's Spring Break next week - so that means that no proctoring for quite some time. Actually, since my official due date is the last day of Spring Break, I think I will likely not return to proctoring until final exams, at which time the possibility of good amounts of hours will lure me out of recovery and new-motherhood to make as much money as possible.
But I am pretty exhausted these days, so some time inside is just what I need, and no more daily treks to the bus for 9 hour shifts. Yay!
That having been said, though, next week will bring its own chores. I want to get my taxes in before the delivery, as well as fix some student loan mix ups, and get some banking stuff done. I might also set myself to grocery stocking and freezing up some dinners and muffins before I pop - to save some cooking time for those first few weeks afterwards.
But, most importantly, IT'S FRIDAY!
(Oh, and happy early birthday to Murph, who celebrates on Monday!)

Possible Bus Strike
The GRT are in hard negotiations, and could walk out as early as this week, I hear. Please, light a candle or something - a bus strike pretty much means a house-bound Holly for the next while, as this snow is impossible for me to walk through for any distance.

Man, as if just getting around on dry ground would be hard enough for me, nature has to dump even more snow for me to crawl through, over and around. As it is, it takes me an hour to get to work, and even then the chance is I'll be late, just because I chug at about 3 steps a minute with this growing bulk of mine (usually with a stream of svelte undergrads trying to get around me).
Now I fully understand why the worst biblical prophecies always warn about the dire consequences for "the pregnant and the birthing." Even the rapture itself couldn't get my big arse in gear. It only has two speeds: Slow and asleep.

Work, Work, Work
Am working every day this week except for one, in an attempt to make some extra dough while I still can. Sorry for the relative blog silence, but I've been a bit tired as a result. Proctoring isn't physically all that demanding, but with my due date looming on the 24th, even walking back and forth to the bus stop in this weather is enough to drain me.

Gallantry
Today, for the first time in my pregnancy, a young man gave up his seat for me on a crowded bus. It was a testimony to exactly how pregnant I look that he did, I guess. And it was a testimony to exactly how pregnant I really feel that I took him up on the offer.

Baby Shower
The baby shower was a great time tonight, with a lot of good loot received, good food eaten, and some good chuckles. Also, the addition of A&A's new baby was a welcome touch of liveliness - I got to see Murph with a real live little one, so it was a cute foreshadow of things to come very soon.
For gifts, we got an assortment of bath, nursing and diaper supplies, some baby clothes and bibs, a photo album, a sweet stuffed ducky, and some blankets - all very useful items.

Unclean
Stay away from this plague house. Murph and I have both been heaving up our supper. I figure I can't blame mine on the baby, since Murph has it, too. Therefore, I can't swear that visitors will be safe. It's gross, in any case.

Weekend Update
Made-for-TV never came this chilling. I can't understand how I made it through a criminology degree in Canada without hearing about this guy, but maybe I blocked it out. In any case, an interesting flick - one easily missed, but I do recommend it if you come across it.
Otherwise, spending a quiet weekend watching Roots and finishing up some baby tasks. I finished stitching a dust ruffle for the crib, and am now on to the bundling board. I had forgotten how relaxing sewing can actually be - when I'm not cursing at the thread, that is.
