Lonesome Tonight?

While many, many pot-shots have been taken at the expense of Elvis Presley’s movies, I do not participate. The man did more than Charro! (1969), you know.

Give the man a chance, especially in the week of the 29th anniversary of his death, and try Flaming Star (1960), Jailhouse Rock (1957), Wild in the Country (1961), King Creole (1958), and, the ultimate in GI musicals, GI Blues (1960; above).

All of these films capture a charisma and a true sparkle of genuine acting talent that would have actually amounted to something with better scripts, more time, and some considerate management. It is a pity.

So, give Elvie a little sugar, mama (and another try).
