The People Who Made This Possible

This blogathon push is dedicated to William Holden. This is not surprising as I am both a film student and a film fan, and a huge admirer of Holden’s work. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t pull myself away from Holden long enough to note the people whose work have created and maintained the organizations that pay tribute to Holden’s legacy of conservation.

Stephanie Powers was William Holden’s companion and friend, as well as his side kick on his many ventures in Africa. His concerns over the state of wildlife in Kenya became hers, as well, and she is now chair of the William Holden Wildlife Foundation, and organization she started as a tribute to Holden after his 1981 death. She has become an important force in African and world conservation, and has recently immerged as one of the strongest voices in the anti-bush meat campaign.

Don and Iris Hunt have worked diligently for the endangered or at-risk animals of Mount Kenya for over 30 years, and, through their deep respect for animal life and commitment to conservation, they have built an organization that seeks to reduce poaching, to restock endangered species in Kenya, to educate local youth in conservation work, and to save the lives of orphaned animals. Their work is daily work, and donations can help them further the important projects overseen by the conservancy.

Please visit their website, and please donate.
