I now have my RA assignment sewed up, and now have 10 hours of week of work at $15 an hour. John gets his first pay on Thursday. Loan and refunds are still somewhere in transit (we hope). However, there is a light somewhere at the end of this poverty-stricken tunnel. Peace settles over the homestead once more.
And the a/c starts to revive the cat, slowly, from his heat-induced stupor. Methinks that poor old Fritz is not the cat he once was. Makes me sad to see him move into the geriatric phase of life, and a slightly inflated power bill is a small price to pay to see him play again.
Comp reading continues, and I have my two conference applications written up and waiting for a few final edits before they wing their way off. Interlibrary loan books come in by the armloads, so work on the dissertation proposal proceeds. Scary – it is no longer a matter of a “preliminary statement,” but of a real, live proposal… It seems like only months ago I was applying to this program.
The devil on my shoulder keeps inspiring me to do my research on Irish-Jewish intermarriage in film, as there is a surprising ton of material on this subject so near and dear to my heart… Wonder what the Advisor would think…?
Clapboard Jungle will be updated by Wednesday afternoon. That is the deadline. By hook or by crook. Thinking of doing a dandy little war picture that has taken my fancy recently. Details later.
We enter the last 20 hours of John’s time off from work, so I shall now go back and make hay while the sun shines. We shall gather around the old radio with some juice and the cat… Ain’t we a wild bunch?
