Gold Rush (1925)

This is the re-release of the Gold Rush, as narrated by Chaplin himself. They sure don't make films like this any more. This was the first Chaplin film I ever saw, which makes it a real milestone. I don't know what I expected, but the 1990s teenage arrogance in me likely figured comedy before the 1960s all involved buggies and old men slapping their knees a lot - I know that I wasn't prepared for how awesome this film is. The chicken scene completely slays me. Still ranks as one of the funniest comedies of all time, in my humble opinion. Truly a classic.

On a personal note, I'm glad to be getting back to my film roots with this blog.
