Muslims, and Buddhists, and Jews, oh my!

I am knee deep in diaspora theory, linking Muslim, Jewish and Buddhist forms of diversity in North America for my comprehensive exam - their experiences, their similar patterns, their divergent patterns, their modes of identity construction in North America, and their organizations. The ways that education can be a mode of preserving their religious (or ethno-religious) heritage.

Reading all these traditions simultaneously in such a short time period has been quite terrific, really, and I am feeling much better about this exam. I still have a lot to learn about the social scientific study of religions and on secularization, before Friday, but I think I have tackled a few subjects in good detail.

I think I will survive, after all.
